What is Al-Anon?

The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems.

Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution; does not engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions.

How does Al-Anon work?

Al-Anon does not maintain a membership list or take attendance. You can attend as little or as many meetings you wish in which you can talk or just listen. However, change occurs as a result of attending meetings regularly.

No Membership List

Anonymity is an important principle of the Al-Anon/Alateen program. Everything that is said in the group meeting and member-to-member, must be held in confidence. Only in this way can we feel free to say what is in our minds and hearts, for this is how we help one another in Al-Anon/Alateen.

Anonymity

The single most productive way to grab hold of all that the Al-Anon/Alateen program has to offer is to use the Twelve Steps as a tool for living. They are the essence of the program, the underlying principles upon which all recovery in Al- Anon/Alateen is based.

Our Purpose

Is to help families and friends of alcoholics whether the alcoholic is currently drinking or has in the past.

Is Al-Anon right for me?

To help you decide if Al-Anon could help you, we offer two simple self-assessment quizzes. The questions in these quizzes are not meant to judge anyone or to assign labels to important people in our lives. The purpose of the questions is simply to help decide whether Al-Anon might be able to help.
